Last night we answered the question: You and whose army?

How to promote books, authors and small presses, and a round up of other news.

Last night MOB hosted a open conversation about book promotion for small presses, and emerging and self-published authors called ‘You and Whose Army?’. The event was named for the fact that there are so many of us out there bootstrapping our writing careers together alongside all our other commitments - alongside life itself - and doing everything from the writing and the editing to the promotion.

It was a wonderful, inspiring and energising conversation - thank you to everyone who attended, including

.

The video above include tips and advice from

and , as a debut author and independent publisher respectively. We’ve left the Q&A part of the conversation private to those who attended live.

It was such a success that we here at MOB HQ have decided to do these ‘You and Whose Army?’ talks as a regular monthly event! More details on the next one soon. It will take place on Wednesday August 6th (and every second Wednesday of the month thereafter) so mark your diaries!

Maria's top ten tips from the event are below. Here you can download (click on 'Media Kits') examples of sell sheets for bookshops.

In other bookselling news, we have been approaching the promotion of Biography of Deception using a new idea - short videos providing intriguing insights into the novella itself and the writing of it too. An example is below:

And for A Line Drawn or Printed: Six Routes Through Madrid, Jayne has gone the more traditional route and been appearing on podcasts all over the place, including with RTVE, Spain’s national radio and TV network. You can listen to her (in English) here.

That’s all the news from us for now. We hope you are enjoying your summer and getting through those TBR piles!
